Jan. 24, 2009 - Generation Earth Recycling Workshop at SPMS

Today we experienced a wonderful, informative workshop about recycling (and diverting trash away from landfills). It was presented by Matthew Palmer and Steve Howe from Generation Earth. They had a great PowerPoint that explained the problems with wasting natural resources, and showed the cycle we can follow when we re-use materials.

There were teachers and students from all over L.A. present. All together, there were 20 people. And, of course, members of our SPMS Environmental Club were there: Paul Messana, Dominique Amaya, Jesse Belmont, Emily Joe, Sarah Bebb, Sanam and Sophie.

We also heard from Roberta from Planet Green. Planet Green is an awesome company that makes it so easy to recycle e-waste like dead cell phones and inkjet cartridges! They give you the shipping box, pay for the shipping -- and send you a check for the value of the items you've recycled! Wow!

We will be participating in the Battle of the Schools. That is a competition between schools all over L.A. to see which one can save the most from our landfills, by recycling, or reusing, materials from plastic bottles to TV sets. More info on that soon.

It was so great to have such wonderful speakers, and such a nice audience. Thank you so much, Matthew & Steve!
